Cedar Key Favorites
Cedar Key Birding
Serenity’s balcony or Tranquility’s balcony is great for observing birds in the small bay and sandy beach below the balconies.
Cedar Key Dining
Casual Lunch / Music
Big Deck Raw Bar and Grill on Dock Street has the best grouper sandwiches, great Cubans and Mufalettas and a full bar. They are located on Dock Street and no stairs required. It’s a casual affair with paper and plastic plates and utensils, but oh the food! You’ll want to try it all! They also offer music most of the time Thursday through Sunday afternoon. (No stairs | pet friendly | frequent music)
Seafood Dinner Out
Steamers Clam Bar and Grill on Dock Street is our first choice for seafood dinner with a view – the balcony seating features dolphins and more! Steamers offers a wide range of local, fresh seafood – clams, oysters, shrimp, fish and imported seafood such as snow crab! You want to try the seafood salad! They also offer an excellent selection of landlubber choices – try the rib eye! The seafood salad deserves your careful attention and those in the know recommend the lobster mac and cheese. We love their burgers. Also – best local beer tap collection in town including samplers. (3rd floor | no elevator | occasional music)
The 1842 Daily Grind & Mercantile has amazing coffee and pastries and croissants and quiche and… They are located on 2nd Street at D Street and no stair climbing is required. Open for breakfast daily – 7:30 – 11:30am. (No stairs | coffee!)
Or traditional eggs, sausage, mullet, what have you… can be found at Annie’s Cafe on Hwy 24 and 6th Street. This is an old-fashioned locals kind of place and there’s always a great “cuppa” waiting for you. They also serve lunch and offer catering services in Cedar Key! A long time favorite.
Cedar Key Fishing
Florida Big Bend Charter Captains
Saltwater Assassin Fishing Charters is a family run team of the best captains in Cedar Key! Father Captain Jim and son Captain Jimbo will put you on the reds, trout and triple tail every time. They will pick you up at our dock, take you out for a half day or day trip and bring you back to the dock, clean your catch and provide you with cooking tips if you like! You really want to go FishCedarKey with SWAC!
Cedar Key Sightseeing/Exploring
Kayak Cedar Key Florida
We love visiting Atsena Otie Key, a small island about one half mile out from the city of Cedar Key. The island is one of the many keys that make up the Cedar Keys Wildlife Refuge. There’s a great walk through the woods that takes you to an old cemetery. The path is lined with ancient live oaks dripping in Spanish moss. It’s a great walk. But bring your insect repellent – the mosquitoes and “no-seeums” can be ferocious! Do you need a kayak? A paddleboard? A canoe? Go see Dan at CedarKeyPaddling.com – he will fix you up with whatever you need, deliver it to you at the condos and is happy to arrange pickup/drop off if you want to explore further than you can paddle home!
North Florida Day Trips
We love Manatee Springs – a state park located about 30 miles up the road from Cedar Key. Our favorite is to walk out the boardwalk to see the Suwannee River and often the manatees swimming right near the dock.
